COMPLETE and TRANSCRIPTS: Two words to know for your your application

Posted by Rob Chabot on Oct 4, 2019 3:55:00 PM

It does not need to be complete

It's pretty common for an applicant to hold off on submitting his/her application until everything is "just right" (e.g. complete). Here's a little secret: Your application does not need to complete for you to submit it. You can take and submit your required test (i.e. GMAT or GRE, depending on the program) after you submit your application. We always recommend you submit your application as soon as you are able, whether or not it's technically complete.

Submit your application as soon as you can. You do not need to wait until it's complete.

Don't let transcripts hold up your application

If there is one thing that holds up an applicant's place in the review queue, this is it. The Ohio State University Graduate School sets the rules for what counts as a valid transcript for application review purposes. Below is a very detailed explanation of what the Graduate School requires from you regarding transcripts.

If you are uploading transcripts into your application

The university allows us to review applications with uploaded transcripts under one condition - and one condition only --> the uploaded transcripts must be a scanned copy from official transcripts, front side and back side. Nothing else (web grade report, etc.) will be accepted.

If you are requesting your university to send transcripts on your behalf

For U.S. institutions

If your college/university issues official transcripts electronically: Request that your transcripts be sent electronically from the issuing institution directly to Do not send electronic transcripts to any other address.

If your institution does not send official electronic transcripts: you may order them to be sent to Ohio State. Transcripts must come directly to Ohio State from the issuing institution; they cannot come from the applicant, even if they're in a sealed envelope.

For international institutions

Send copies of international transcripts, diplomas or degree certificates and English translations in sealed university envelopes to:

Special notes for international students

  • Because not all international institutions send transcripts on demand, Ohio State will accept official transcripts sent to Graduate and Professional Admissions by the applicant if they arrive in sealed university envelopes.
  • International transcript documents should include certified educational records and degree certificates or diplomas.
  • All documents must be received in the original language with official English translations. Student-made translations are not accepted.
